Important safety notice
Operator is NOT an emergency service. If you're in actual danger, call 999 immediately. Don't wait for Sam to help.
Quick Version
- Operator is a safety companion, not emergency services
- Currently UK phone numbers only
- The service may not always work - have backup safety plans
- We’re not responsible if things go wrong
- Use common sense and call 999 for real emergencies
What is Operator?
Operator is your AI safety companion - basically Sam, a friendly voice on the phone when you’re travelling alone. It’s designed to make late-night walks or solo taxi rides feel safer, but it isn’t an emergency service.
Who can use Operator?
Currently UK only: Operator currently only works with UK phone numbers (starting with 07 or +44). We're planning to expand to other countries in the future.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Operator. If you’re under 18, we recommend that a parent or guardian is aware you’re using the service.
Ownership and intellectual property
Operator, including the app, Sam’s voice, branding, design, and all related content, is owned by Operator (or its licensors). Using the service doesn’t give you ownership of, or rights to, any part of Operator beyond the right to use it in line with these terms.
How to use Operator properly
Do:
- Set up your profile with accurate information
- Test the service before you really need it
- Have other safety measures in place
- Keep your phone charged
- Tell people where you're going through other methods
Don't:
- Use Operator instead of calling 999 in an emergency
- Rely on Operator as your only safety measure
- Provide false information
- Use the service to harass or abuse anyone (including Sam)
- Try to hack, disrupt, or misuse the service
Acceptable use
Treat the service - and the people behind it - with respect. You must not:
- Use Operator for anything illegal
- Try to hack, disrupt, or damage the service
- Make fake emergency situations
- Abuse the service or waste resources
- Violate anyone else's privacy or rights
What we promise (and what we don't)
We'll aim to:
- Call you when you tap "Call me now"
- Keep the service available and running smoothly
- Text your safety contact when you say you’re home safe
- Protect your privacy
- Improve the product over time
But we can't promise:
- The service will work 100% of the time
- Calls will always go through
- Texts will always be delivered
- Location information will always be accurate
- Third-party services won’t experience issues
Operator is designed to offer reassurance and support, not medical, legal, or professional advice.
The important legal stuff
Please read this section carefully
Service provided "as is"
Operator is provided “as is”, meaning we offer the service in its current form, with all its limitations.
Things that might go wrong include
- Network issues - Calls might not connect if your signal is poor
- Service downtime - Our partners (Twilio, ElevenLabs, etc.) might have technical problems
- Location problems - GPS might be wrong, especially in buildings or tunnels
- Message delays - Texts to your contact might be late or not arrive
- Voice quality - Sam might sound weird sometimes due to connection issues
Liability and your responsibility
We’re not responsible for:
- Harm caused if the service doesn’t work when you need it
- Issues caused by third-party services
- Service outages or technical failures
- Incorrect or unavailable location data
- Missed calls or undelivered texts
- You relying on Operator as your only safety measure
By using Operator, you agree that:
- You understand the service’s limitations and risks
- You won’t use Operator instead of emergency services
- You’ll maintain backup safety plans
- You’re responsible for keeping your phone working and charged
- You’ll provide accurate information
Events outside our control
We’re not responsible for delays, failures, or interruptions caused by events outside our reasonable control. This includes things like network outages, power failures, system outages, natural events, or issues with third-party services we rely on.
Third-party services
Operator relies on third-party providers to work, including:
- ElevenLabs - AI voice
- Twilio - Phone calls and texts
- Zapier - Connecting everything
- Google Maps - Location services
These companies have their own terms and privacy policies. If they have problems, Operator might not work properly - and we can't be held responsible for that.
Payment and fees
Operator is currently free to use, however:
- Your mobile carrier may charge for calls or data
- Using the service abroad may incur international charges
- Paid features may be introduced in the future
Your account and data
Your profile is stored locally on your device, not on our servers.
Calls are handled automatically by our systems and service partners. We don’t have people listening in to conversations as part of providing the service.
For details on how personal data is handled, please see our Privacy Policy.

We may:

We may also suspend or end your access if you violate these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. If we do:

If part of these terms don't apply
If any part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest will still apply. If there’s a difference between versions of these terms, the most recent version available in the app or on our website will apply.
